The definition of Kitsch

The concept of kitsch is applied to artwork that was a response to the 19th-century art with aesthetics that convey exaggerated sentimentalityand melodrama, hence, kitsch art is closely associated with sentimental art. Kitsch is also related to the concept of camp, because of its humorous, ironic nature.

Why not make something beautiful for the home/garden/occasion and be friendly to the environment! Its so simple, Firstly save your glass bottles ,I like to save my coco cola bottles, it give that kitsch feel, plus it gives me an excuse to buy coco cola in bottles yummy ! Secondly make sure they are clean and dry.Thirdly prime the bottles on the outside the bottle and give the primer a day to completely dry.Last of all, have fun and paint whatever colour your heart desires .Another way if you want a shiny bottle effect, pour paint into the bottle and generally move the bottle around to cover the inside completely .

Have fun !!!

Doily days launch party !

Had a lovely time at the launch party for Doily Days Magazine third issue!

The venue was FunFair in Brighton, which was perfect! The atmosphere was amazing with Dawn Vintage Do singing, covered with feathers at one point, shimmying all the while as she owned the stage with her presence and voice! The dance floor was just as noteworthy: swing dancers, vintage dresses, all manner of props and costumes! It really did feel like the set of  a 50’s film!

There were a lot of talented photographers taking full advantage of the mood and theme of the evening, one that particularly stood out: Velvet Storm Photography, a successful company based in Eastbourne. Their vintage shoots really stand out! Have a look at their page.

One of my favorite features, and a highlight of the night was the photo booth, SUCH FUN! You get a few seconds to choose a prop amidst rapid fire photography, they say a photo is worth a thousand words, well words can’t describe some of these! Well worth a look into if you’re planning an event, really spice up the party!

What is a party without food? Well this launch party was no exception. Cupcakes, marshmallows, cakes and meringues a plenty! So many tasty treats all mouth wateringly naughty!

Can’t wait for the next issue!

Thank you Doily Days!

Jam And Tea

From the blogger

Image

Hello everyone! I would to introduce myself: my name is Emma, and I’m the new Jam and Tea blogger!!! I’m a Horsham girl now out in the big wide world. I’m one of many siblings, and proud to be, as it has allowed me to find my sense of  design and my love of art. Speaking of which, let me tell you a bit about myself, and how I find myself here.

As a child I loved to draw, paint and experiment with different media and styles. I’d even go so far as to say it was the best way of expressing myself, so I stuck with it through school and college, and finally university, where I studied Spatial Design at Falmouth. Uni came to an end, and now I’ve found the perfect combination of blogging, visual merchandising, event designing and a love for tea! (Pretty Things in Horsham has certainly helped!)

I am constantly searching for new ideas whether it be on Pinterest, TV, magazines, the list goes on! I appreciate anything that’s artsy and tasteful, and am open to all sorts of themes and styles. Personally, my favourite movement has to be the Kitsch movement: bright colours, cute, slightly uncanny, sprinkle of fun and a bit mad. My biggest inspiration by far has got to be my Nanny. She was a very glamorous lady, yet completely mad! Neon house, singing toilet seat, and a huge collection of china dolls. You get the picture!

So, why blogging? In short, I love finding new inspiration and passing it on! Through whatever form of media or background, I love to share my creativity and passion for absolutely anything stylish and new. Half the fun is in the finding! If you’d like to have a look at my personal blog, the link is here:  http://buttonandbeyond.wordpress.com/ and on instagram: http://instagram.com/buttonandbeyond

I am really excited to be bringing you all the latest from Jam & Tea, and hope you can all pop in regularly!
